Description

The Watts 4 inch Series 994 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is a lead-free backflow preventer engineered to protect potable water from health hazard cross-connections. It features a durable stainless steel body and internal parts, designed for long-term corrosion resistance and strength. This model comes without shutoff valves and includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharges. The sensor, when activated with an add-on connection kit, provides crucial flood notification for facility personnel. Its compact design, short lay length, and maximum operating pressure of 175 psi make it suitable for various installations requiring reliable backflow prevention and flood monitoring. Item number F438050.

Help Me Connect

The 4 inch Watts Series 994 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is designed for in-line installation into potable water supply systems. This model features flanged connections for secure attachment to existing piping. The assembly is supplied without shutoff valves.

The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on sensor connection kit to activate its alert features. This kit allows communication with building management systems (BMS) or cellular networks for notification of excessive water discharge. The flood sensor is passive without this connection kit.

Additional Details

This 4 inch Watts Series 994 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly backflow preventer is designed to protect potable water supplies from health hazard cross-connections by preventing the reverse flow of liquids due to backpressure or backsiphonage. This model is assembled without shutoff valves and includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology.

Its compact, modular design features a short lay length, a lightweight stainless steel body, corrosion-resistant stainless steel relief valve, and patented torsion spring check valves, simplifying installation and maintenance.

Features

  • Stainless steel construction provides long term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions make retrofit easy.
  • Bottom mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements when installed against an outside wall.
  • Torsion spring check valves provide maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Thermoplastic and stainless steel check valves for trouble-free operation.
  • No special tools required for servicing.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals and lower maintenance costs.

Flood Sensor Details

  • Features a flood sensor on the relief valve for detecting excessive water discharges.
  • Flood alert functionality is activated with an add-on sensor connection kit, compatible with Building Management Systems (BMS) and cellular network communication.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any other device. Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

Construction Materials

  • All internal metal parts are 300 Series stainless steel.
  • Main valve body is 300 Series stainless steel.
  • Check assembly uses Noryl®.
  • The wetted surface of this product contacted by consumable water contains less than one quarter of one percent (0.25%) of lead by weight, making it a lead-free product.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Watts Series 994 backflow preventer?

The Watts Series 994 Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backpressure or backsiphonage, specifically in health hazard cross-connection applications.

Does this 4 inch backflow preventer include shutoff valves?

No, this specific model (4 994-LF-FS) is assembled without shutoff valves. Shutoff valve options would need to be added separately.

How does the flood sensor function on this assembly?

The integrated SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert features and enable communication with BMS or cellular networks, an add-on sensor connection kit is required. Without the kit, the sensor remains passive.

What are the main materials used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for corrosion resistance and strength. The check assembly utilizes Noryl®.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature ratings for this unit?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and a continuous operating temperature range of 33°F-110°F (0.5°C - 43°C).
