Additional Details

This 4 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer Assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into the potable water supply. It protects against backsiphonage and backpressure in accordance with national plumbing codes and water authority requirements, making it ideal for health hazard applications and continuous pressure piping.

Its compact modular design facilitates easy maintenance with a single access cover for in-line repairs. This assembly includes a short lay length stainless steel body, test cocks, a corrosion-resistant stainless steel bottom-mounted relief valve, torsion spring check valves, and outside stem and yoke resilient seated gate valves. It is also furnished with a gallon per minute meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.

Features

  • Stainless steel body is half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions make retrofit easy.
  • Bottom-mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements when installed against an outside wall.
  • Torsion spring check valves provide maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Thermoplastic check valves with stainless steel hinge pins for trouble-free operation.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm to eliminate sliding seals and lower maintenance costs.
  • Detects underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Equipped with a Gallons Per Minute (GPM) meter.
  • UL Classified and FM Approved Outside Stem & Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves.
  • Designed for health hazard applications.
  • No special tools required for servicing.

Notice: An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component that does not communicate with any other device.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts 994RPDA backflow preventer?

The primary function of this 4-inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is to prevent the reverse flow of fire protection substances and non-potable water into the potable water supply, protecting against backsiphonage and backpressure.

What are the main material components of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series Stainless Steel, providing long-term corrosion resistance. The check assembly uses Noryl®.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this assembly?

This backflow preventer has a maximum operating pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and a continuous temperature range of 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).

Does this backflow preventer include shutoff valves?

Yes, it comes equipped with UL Classified and FM Approved Outside Stem and Yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves for reliable shutoff control.

How does the flood sensor feature work, and is an additional kit needed?

The flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. An add-on connection kit is required to activate this feature; without it, the sensor is a passive component and does not communicate with other devices.
