Description

The Watts 6 inch 994RPDA-OSY-CFM-FS is a Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly designed for health hazard applications to prevent backpressure and backsiphonage, protecting potable water supplies. This robust unit features a 300 Series stainless steel body, offering superior corrosion resistance and reduced installation costs due to its lighter weight and compact design. It includes an integrated SentryPlus Alert flood sensor for detecting continuous relief valve discharge, which activates with an add-on connection kit, and a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter for leak detection. UL Classified and FM Approved OSY gate valves ensure reliable operation up to 175 psi.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

To activate the integrated flood sensor and enable alert notifications, an add-on sensor connection kit is required. Without this kit, the flood sensor operates as a passive component and will not communicate with other devices. Retrofit sensor connection kits are also available for existing installations.

The flood alert feature is compatible with BMS (Building Management Systems) and cellular network communication. For advanced integration, the Sensor Control Monitor allows connection with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Drain Line Installation

Watts recommends installing a drain line along with the required 994AGK-P air gap for proper drain line installation. When installing an air gap, ensure the air gap brackets are attached directly to the flood sensor.

Additional Details

The Watts 6 inch 994RPDA-OSY-CFM-FS Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is designed to prevent the reverse flow of liquids due to backpressure or backsiphonage in health hazard applications. This assembly includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, helping to prevent costly damage.

Its compact modular design features a short lay length stainless steel body, test cocks, corrosive-resistant stainless steel bottom mounted relief valve, torsion spring check valves, and outside stem and yoke resilient seated gate valves. It also comes furnished with a cubic foot per minute (CFM) meter to detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.

Primary Applications

  • Protects potable water supply from backsiphonage and backpressure in health hazard applications.
  • Prevents reverse flow of fire protection substances like glycerin wetting agents, foam agents, stagnant water, and non-potable water.

Flood Sensor & Alerts

  • Features a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology on the relief valve for detecting continuous discharge.
  • When paired with an add-on sensor connection kit, the sensor activates to relay alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Supports integration with BMS and cellular communication options.
  • The Sensor Control Monitor enables integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Key Features & Construction

  • Stainless steel body provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Body is half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions facilitate easy retrofit.
  • Bottom mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements for installations against an outside wall.
  • Torsion spring check valves provide maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Thermoplastic and stainless steel check valves ensure trouble-free operation.
  • No special tools required for servicing.
  • Compact construction allows for smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve with a balanced rolling diaphragm eliminates sliding seals and lowers maintenance costs.
  • Detects underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Includes a CFM meter.
  • UL Classified and FM Approved outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves.

Important Safety Note: Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Watts 994RPDA-OSY-CFM-FS assembly?

This 6 inch Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly is primarily used in health hazard applications to prevent the reverse flow of non-potable liquids into the potable water supply, caused by backpressure or backsiphonage. It protects against contaminants like stagnant water, foam agents, and glycerin wetting agents.

How does the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor work?

The integrated flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve, signaling facility personnel for corrective action to prevent flooding and costly damage. An add-on sensor connection kit is required to activate this feature and enable communication with BMS, cellular networks, or BAS systems.

What are the main construction materials of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel, providing long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength. The check assembly is made of Noryl®.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this unit?

The Watts 994RPDA-OSY-CFM-FS has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It can operate continuously within a temperature range of 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).

Does this backflow assembly come with a meter?

Yes, this 994RPDA assembly is furnished with a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter. This meter helps detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
