Installation & Compatibility

  • This assembly is designed for drop-in replacement of competitor's Z-pattern valves, offering a longer gate-to-gate lay length. It can also be installed in a vertical up Z-pattern orientation.
  • The inlet/outlet features AWWA Compliant resilient seated shutoff valves. For fire sprinkler applications, the assembly is fitted with UL Classified and FM Approved inlet/outlet resilient seated shutoff valves.
  • The integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its communication features, an add-on connection kit is required.
  • Connection kit options include BMS (Building Management System), cellular communication, or the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi.
  • Inquire with governing authorities for local installation requirements prior to installation.

Additional Details

This 6 inch lead free MasterSeries® Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly protects potable water systems from high hazard (toxic) fluids caused by backpressure and backsiphonage in industrial and water service installations. It is designed for drop-in replacement of competitor’s Z-pattern valves, featuring a longer gate-to-gate lay length.

The assembly incorporates a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, providing an early warning system for potential flooding when used with an add-on connection kit.

Key Features

  • 6 inch Z-pattern orientation for competitor drop-in replacement
  • Lead Free construction to comply with low lead installation requirements
  • Ductile iron body coated with ArmorTek® advanced epoxy system for corrosion resistance
  • Stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components for maximum durability
  • Domestic OSY resilient seated gate valves included
  • Modular and repairable pressure differential relief valve
  • Inline serviceable assembly, requiring no special tools for maintenance
  • Captured modular spring assembly and clapper check assembly
  • Reversible and replaceable discs and field replaceable seats
  • Integrated flood sensor on relief valve for discharge detection

An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor's communication capabilities. Without this kit, the sensor is passive. Always comply with installation instructions, local codes, and ensure proper drainage for discharge events.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the FEBCO 6 inch LF880W/WZ Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer?

Its primary function is to protect potable drinking water systems from contamination by high hazard (toxic) fluids that could enter due to backpressure or backsiphonage, commonly found in industrial and water service applications.

What does "Lead Free" mean for this backflow preventer?

Lead Free signifies that the wetted surface of the product, which contacts consumable water, contains less than 0.25% of lead by weight, complying with low lead installation requirements.

How does the integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology work?

The flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When an add-on connection kit is paired with the sensor, it activates communication to relay alerts (e.g., via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi) to personnel about potential flooding events.

Is this backflow preventer compatible with existing installations?

Yes, this LF880W/WZ model is designed with a longer gate-to-gate lay length specifically to provide a drop-in replacement for competitor's Z-pattern oriented backflow preventer valves.

What materials are used for key components to ensure durability?

The main valve and relief valve bodies are made from ArmorTek® coated ductile iron for corrosion resistance. Key internal components like the relief valve seat, check seats, disc holders, and springs are constructed from stainless steel for maximum performance and durability.
