Additional Details

This 8 inch Ames Series 4000SS Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer assembly is designed to protect potable water supplies from health-hazard cross-connections, preventing the reverse flow of contaminated water due to backsiphonage or backpressure. It is ideal for service line entrance protection in commercial and industrial applications.

This compact assembly features a lightweight stainless steel body, domestic outside stem and yoke (OSY) resilient seated gate valves, and patented cam-check valves. It includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive water discharge from the relief valve, providing an alert capability when paired with an add-on connection kit.

Construction & Features

  • Lead Free* construction for compliance with national codes.
  • Stainless steel body provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Body is approximately half the weight of competitive designs, reducing installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions facilitate easy retrofitting.
  • Patented cam-check assembly ensures maximum flow with low pressure drop.
  • Stainless steel relief valve with a balanced rolling diaphragm eliminates sliding seals and lowers maintenance costs.
  • Flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects continuous discharge from the relief valve.
  • Sensor functionality is activated with an add-on connection kit (sold separately) for communication via BMS, cellular network, or Sensor Control Monitor (BAS via RS-485 Modbus or Nexa® platform via Wi-Fi).
  • Single access cover for easy maintenance without special tools.
  • Domestic OSY gate valves for reliable shutoff.
  • Four ball type test cocks for testing and troubleshooting.

Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts® is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary purpose of the Ames Series 4000SS backflow preventer?

Its primary purpose is to protect potable water supplies from contamination caused by backsiphonage or backpressure from health-hazard cross-connections, ensuring the safety of drinking water.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are made from 300 Series stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance and strength. The check assembly uses Noryl® with stainless steel hinge pins.

How does the SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor work?

The flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert capabilities, an add-on connection kit (sold separately) is required, which can then relay signals via BMS, cellular, or Wi-Fi to facility personnel.

What are the advantages of the stainless steel body compared to other materials?

The stainless steel body provides excellent long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength. It is also approximately half the weight of competitive designs, which helps reduce installation and shipping costs.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this device?

This backflow preventer is rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). It can operate in temperatures ranging from 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).
