Additional Details

The Watts Series 957 Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) backflow preventer provides essential protection for potable water systems, preventing contamination from backpressure or backsiphonage, where health hazards exist. This 8 inch assembly is designed to stop the reverse flow of liquids, ensuring compliance with national plumbing codes.

This backflow preventer features OSY (Outside Stem and Yoke) grooved gate valves, allowing clear visual indication of valve position and resisting stem corrosion. The assembly is built for easy maintenance, incorporating positive seated torsion spring check modules, a bottom-mounted differential pressure relief valve, and top-mounted test cocks.

A critical safety feature is the integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology, designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve. When paired with an optional add-on connection kit, this sensor actively relays alerts for potential flooding events, which can be integrated with Building Management Systems (BMS) via RS-485 Modbus, cellular communication, or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Features

  • Lead Free* construction ensures wetted surfaces contain less than 0.25% lead by weight.
  • Durable 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel housing and sleeve provide robust construction.
  • Designed for unmatched ease of serviceability.
  • Groove fittings facilitate integral pipeline adjustment.
  • Patented torsion spring checks deliver the lowest pressure loss.
  • Replaceable check disc rubber allows for simplified maintenance.
  • Equipped with UL Classified and FM Approved OSY resilient seated gate valves.
  • Extremely compact design, 70% lighter than traditional designs.

Use of the flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required instructions, codes, and regulations related to installation, operation, and maintenance of this product, including the need to provide proper drainage in the event of a discharge.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts Series 957 Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assembly?

The primary function of this 8-inch RPZ assembly is to protect potable water systems from contamination. It prevents the reverse flow of liquids caused by backpressure or backsiphonage, especially in health hazard applications.

What type of shutoff valves does this backflow preventer utilize?

This assembly is equipped with OSY (Outside Stem and Yoke) grooved gate valves for both the inlet and outlet. These valves are resilient seated, UL Classified, and FM Approved, allowing visual confirmation of the valve's open or closed position.

Does this backflow preventer include a flood sensor?

Yes, this Watts Series 957 model includes an integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology. It is designed to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve, and with an optional add-on connection kit, it can relay alerts for potential flooding events.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature range for this unit?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar). The operational temperature range is 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).

What materials are used for the main housing and internal components?

The housing and sleeve are constructed from durable 304 (Schedule 40) stainless steel. Internal components such as elastomers (EPDM, silicone, Buna-N), check discs (reversible silicone or EPDM), and torsion spring checks (Noryl®, stainless steel) are selected for reliability and ease of serviceability.
