Description

The Watts 8 inch 994RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer is engineered for health hazard applications, preventing backsiphonage and backpressure of non-potable substances into the potable water supply. Featuring a durable 300 Series stainless steel body, UL and FM approved OSY gate valves, and a CFM meter to detect leaks. It includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor to detect excessive relief valve discharge, activating alerts with an add-on connection kit. Its lightweight, compact design and bottom-mounted relief valve simplify installation and maintenance.

Help Me Connect

Flood Sensor Connectivity

  • To activate the integral flood sensor, an add-on connection kit is required. Without this kit, the flood sensor operates as a passive component and does not communicate with other devices.
  • Connection kit options include compatibility with BMS (Building Management Systems) and cellular network communication.
  • The Sensor Control Monitor option enables integration with BAS (Building Automation Systems) via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing for maintenance alerts to be delivered.

Additional Details

The 8 inch Watts Series 994RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer assembly is designed to stop the reverse flow of hazardous liquids due to backpressure or backsiphonage in health hazard applications.

This assembly is ideal for preventing fire protection substances, such as glycerin, foam agents, or stagnant water, from entering the potable water supply.

Features

  • Stainless steel construction provides long-term corrosion resistance and maximum strength.
  • Lightweight stainless steel body reduces installation and shipping costs.
  • Short end-to-end dimensions make retrofit easy.
  • Bottom mounted relief valve reduces clearance requirements when installed against an outside wall.
  • Torsion spring check valves ensure maximum flow at low pressure drop.
  • Thermoplastic and stainless steel check valves offer trouble-free operation.
  • No special tools are required for servicing.
  • Compact construction allows for installation in smaller enclosures.
  • Stainless steel relief valve features a balanced rolling diaphragm for lower maintenance.
  • Detects underground leaks and unauthorized water use.
  • Includes a cubic feet per minute (CFM) meter for accurate monitoring.

Flood Sensor with SentryPlus Alert® Technology

  • Equipped with a flood sensor on the relief valve to detect excessive water discharges.
  • When paired with an add-on connection kit, the sensor relays alerts for potential flooding events.
  • Connection kit options include BMS, cellular communication, and the Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS via RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.
  • An add-on connection kit is required to activate the flood sensor. Without the connection kit, the flood sensor is a passive component. Watts is not responsible for the failure of alerts due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the Watts 994RPDA Reduced Pressure Detector Backflow Preventer?

The primary function is to protect potable water supplies from contamination due to backsiphonage and backpressure, especially in health hazard applications involving non-potable substances like fire protection chemicals or stagnant water.

Does this assembly include a flood sensor, and how does it work?

Yes, it includes a SentryPlus Alert® flood sensor on the relief valve to detect excessive water discharges. When activated with an add-on connection kit, it relays signals to facility personnel for corrective action, helping to limit flooding and costly damage.

What materials are used in the construction of this backflow preventer?

The main valve body and all internal metal parts are constructed from 300 Series stainless steel for superior corrosion resistance and strength. The check assembly uses Noryl® material.

What are the maximum operating pressure and temperature limits for this device?

This backflow preventer has a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and operates continuously within a temperature range of 33°F to 110°F (0.5°C to 43°C).

What kind of meter is included with this model?

This specific model comes furnished with a Cubic Feet Per Minute (CFM) meter, which helps detect underground leaks and unauthorized water use within the system.
