Description

The 8 inch Lead Free MasterSeries Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly protects potable water systems from high hazard (toxic) fluids in industrial applications. Designed for competitor Z-pattern drop-in replacement, it features a durable ArmorTek® coated ductile iron body and stainless steel relief valve seat and check components for extended life. An integrated flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology detects excessive relief valve discharge, relaying alerts when paired with a connection kit. This assembly operates up to 175 PSI at temperatures from 33°F to 140°F, and is ASSE 1013, UL, and FM Approved. Item F8007384 is supplied without shutoff valves.

Installation and Compatibility

  • This MasterSeries LF880W/WZ assembly is specifically designed for drop-in replacement of competitor's valves, featuring a longer gate-to-gate length for simplified upgrades or replacements.
  • It supports both vertical up N-pattern and vertical up Z-pattern installation orientations.
  • The integrated flood sensor requires an add-on connection kit for activation and communication of alerts. These kits enable connection to systems such as BMS, cellular communication networks, or via a Sensor Control Monitor for integration with BAS (Building Automation Systems) using RS-485 Modbus or the Nexa® platform through Wi-Fi.

Additional Details

This 8 inch Lead Free MasterSeries Reduced Pressure Zone Backflow Preventer Assembly is designed to protect potable water systems from high hazard (toxic) fluids caused by backpressure and backsiphonage in industrial installations and applications.

Key Features

  • Longer gate-to-gate length for drop-in replacement of competitor's Z-pattern valves.
  • Stainless steel relief valve seat and stainless steel check components for maximum performance and durability.
  • Inline serviceable assembly requiring no special tools.
  • Ductile iron valve body design with ArmorTek® coating technology to resist corrosion of internals, including microbial-induced corrosion (MIC).
  • Modular and repairable pressure differential relief valve with captured modular spring assembly and clapper check assembly.
  • Reversible and replaceable discs and field replaceable seats.
  • Capable of vertical up N-pattern and vertical up Z-pattern installation.

Flood Sensor Technology

  • Includes a flood sensor with SentryPlus Alert® technology to detect excessive water discharges from the relief valve.
  • The sensor relays a signal for multichannel alerts (call, email, text) to notify personnel of potential flooding.
  • Requires an add-on connection kit (BMS, cellular communication, or Sensor Control Monitor for BAS/Nexa® platform Wi-Fi) to activate and communicate flood alerts. Without a connection kit, the sensor is passive.

Important Notice: The flood sensor does not replace the need to comply with all required installation, operation, and maintenance instructions, codes, and regulations, including proper drainage in the event of a discharge. Watts® is not responsible for alert failures due to connectivity issues, power outages, or improper installation.

FAQs

What is the primary function of this backflow preventer?

This backflow preventer protects potable drinking water systems from contamination by high hazard (toxic) fluids, preventing backpressure and backsiphonage in industrial and commercial installations.

Does this backflow preventer include shutoff valves?

No, the 8 LF880WZ-LG RP-FS model is supplied without shutoff valves ("Less Shutoff Valves"). These would need to be sourced separately if required for your installation.

What is the significance of the "Z-pattern lay length"?

The "Z-pattern lay length" design allows this assembly to be a direct drop-in replacement for competitor valves with similar dimensions, simplifying installation and reducing modification needs.

How does the flood sensor work, and what is required to use it?

The integrated flood sensor detects excessive water discharges from the relief valve. To activate its alert capabilities, an add-on connection kit (e.g., BMS, cellular, or Sensor Control Monitor for BAS/Nexa® platform) is required.

What is the maximum operating pressure and temperature for this unit?

This backflow preventer is rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi (12.1 bar) and can operate continuously within a temperature range of 33°F to 140°F (0.5°C to 60°C).
